In September 1995, Modern Elementary School was established with the assistance of a group of former teachers from the Sierra Rutile Primary School; primarily as a means of providing education for displaced pupils from the Rutile Primary School and other primary schools in displaced areas, who could not easily be accommodated into the already overcrowded schools in Freetown.

As a result of repeated requests from parents of Modern Elementary School, the secondary wing was introduced in 2004 with a total of twenty-five (25) students in forms 1 and 2. Modern High School was established in the same premises as Modern Elementary School at no. 13 The Maze, off King Street.

As we celebrate 20 years in existence , I want to express my gratitude to the pioneer staff comprising the Principal, Ms. Elizabeth Caulker, and five (5) staff i.e. Mr. Andrew Mansaray (deceased), Mr. Abdul Aziz Koroma (deceased), Mr Charles Jah, Mr. Koleya Kargbo and Mr. Dadson Musa for their dedication to the students and the school.

In September, 2007, the school relocated to its present premises at 119 Off Jomo Kenyatta Road, Kuku's Drive. Though far from completion, it provided space for additional forms and other facilities. Modern High School has since its inception grown into one of the premier secondary schools in Sierra Leone with a reputation for producing excellent students and results.

It is with great pride and gratitude that I acknowledge the hard work and dedication of the  past and present Principal, staff, parents and alumni who have contributed to our success over the past two decades.

I am proud and excited about the future of Modern High School and look forward to celebrating greater future achievements.   To God Be The Glory.
